By Michael

Maybe you’ve come to the realization like I did, that all the noise of this world isn’t helpful. That listening constantly to our phones, iwhatever, music, tv, news, satellites, audio books, and everything else is not fulfilling and we still don’t have peace in our lives. The secret that society, this world. has caused us to lose is the solitude and peace gained through prayer. Why is this you ask? Isn’t it obvious? No one makes $s on you praying.

Most of us have at some point felt the call to prayer but do not know what to pray. We do not understand how one prays for hours. In a past post titled, How Often Should We Pray?, I delve a little deeper into how much prayer you might consider is best. That’s more about quantity and here I dig into quality with the prayers of the Most Holy Rosary which originated in best estimates, the 1200’s, over 800 years ago.

The Best Prayer to Pray

A key prayer of the Most Holy Rosary is the prayer Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:5-13 and I think if this is all you pray, you’re doing just fine. When combined with Luke telling us what Jesus told us to pray in chapter 11:2-4 we are given the Lord’s Prayer in it’s current form below.

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory,
    For ever and ever. Amen.

I am still amazed how often this prayer is not prayed when people are gathered. Not sure how it gets any better than praying what Jesus told us to pray, but satan has his ways in this world.
The Most Holy Rosary is Prayer on the life of Jesus

Is there a better way to honor Jesus than by meditating on his life and family? How better to pay respect & honor to the Savior of mankind one can do by dedicating time each day praying and meditating on his birth, passion, and resurrection?

The Rosary is based on the Holy Bible and again, how can one be at any fault by meditating on scripture? I just read today a snippet on how atheists challenge the Holy Bible as being written by ‘man’ yet believe every word what scientists say, hmmmm… The Holy Bible was written by men but inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The original Holy Rosary has 3 distinct sets of ‘mysteries’ it is broken down into surrounding the life of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Joyful Mysteries:  Covering he birth of Jesus to his being lost in the temple.

Sorrowful Mysteries: Here we pray on his passion, from being taken in the garden to his final passing being crucified on the cross.

Glorious Mysteries:  In conclusion the time after his death we meditate on his resurrection to his Mother joining him in heaven.

The Benefits of Praying the Most Holy Rosary

Before you judge these benefits as self serving take heed. God wishes for us to pray and become holy for in return he’s happy to help us in our endeavors. Not to be rich mind you or help you win the lottery, but to help his people, his prayerful people, who keep their eyes upon heaven to be blessed by graces in reward but maybe more importantly, as an example to others.

The rosary isn’t just a set of prayers that someone came up with and told us that God told them they were good. Many holy Saints over hundreds of years have reiterated the benefits of praying the Most Holy Rosary. If you question the Saints I suggest you do a little further reading.  For one visit this site on St. Padre Pio who like most saints lived a secluded, prayerful life of service and poverty – yet is surrounded by thousands of stories of his example of faith to others. No, saints are not worshiped nor do they have any special powers, just blessed as examples of faith for us all.

Have I personally benefited by my praying the rosary from any of these cited benefits, blessings, or promises? My answer is without question I have received graces that I attribute to praying the Most Holy Rosary.

The Rosary Becomes a Prayerful Meditation

I like to think of this as a big bonus. Once you learn to pray the rosary without having to read a card you start to really enjoy the fruits of prayer. I’m no saint, far from it, nor a monk or that great of a prayer but when I pray from memory I’m able to truly meditate on the life of Jesus. I get to do it wherever I am and whatever I’m doing.

Do I pray all 3 sets of mysteries each day, no I do not although I aspire to. Most days I get in a least a set of mysteries and often I get further and when blessed make it through all 3 mysteries by day’s end.

You don’t need all that do you, all you need is a few private graces for you and the ones you love.
For me those graces are peace in my family, conversion, healing, and I’ll admit, help with my financial burdens.
